SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director of Operations and Graduate Assistant of Operations
JOB FUNCTION: Assist with the day-to-day operations of the 150,000 sq. ft. Campus Rec Center (CRC) which includes enforcing policies and procedures, helping with first aid and emergencies, and daily facility upkeep/cleaning.
HOURS: Up to 25 hours per week. Flexible work schedules (morning, afternoon, evening, night, and weekend shifts)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Main point of contact and responsible for assisting up to 300 patron visits per shift.
- Ensure facility user safety by having a strong knowledge of the building’s policies and procedures and being up to date on CRC evacuation and risk management strategies.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patrons by having strong communication and interacting with everyone in a respectful, cooperative manner.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude throughout shifts.
- Serve as a campus resource by providing accurate and current information regarding recreation and university-related programs and facilities.
- Assist Facility Supervisors with facility operations that include equipment set up and tear down, cleaning, evacuation, and hourly usage reports.
- Report to authority figures such as lead staff, supervisors, managers, and professional staff.
- Assist with other duties as assigned (may result in helping other departments within Campus Rec).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in 6 or more credit hours at Sam Houston State University
- Successfully pass the State of Texas criminal background check
- Must obtain a valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification within the first 30 days of employment
- Completion of SHSU student employee compliance training and any additional trainings required by the department and university
- Must work early mornings or late nights
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to work on weekends, early mornings, and late nights throughout the week
- Possess a passion for working with people and around fitness and wellness
- Be able to work in an active, crowded, and fast-paced environment
- Must have an increased focus on being punctual, reliable, and dependable
- Excellent communication skills and the able to work with a wide variety of personalities
- Open to constructive feedback while also keeping a positive and upbeat attitude
- Ability to handle conflict as well as confront patrons in a calm and professional manner
