Nature & Purpose of Position
JOB TITLE: Outdoor Recreation Student Assistant
HOURS: Climbing Gym is open Mon-Fri 2-8pm. Hours vary depending on availability and roles within the program.
JOB FUNCTION: Assist with the day to day operation of the Outdoor Recreation Program which includes the following:

JOB FUNCTION: Assist with the day to day operation of the Outdoor Recreation Program which includes the following:
Climbing Center
- Welcome participants into the facility and check them in and ensure waiver is on file or signed.
- Oversee the safe usage of the climbing center.
- Ensure that all participants are qualified to use the climbing wall.
- Correct any improper use of the climbing center or the equipment.
- Clean up around the climbing center area as needed, as well as keep up with general maintenance of the climbing wall.
- Provide care and supervision in the event of an emergency.
Gear Rentals
- Make rental reservations for equipment by completing proper paperwork.
- Check equipment in and out ensuring all paperwork is completed properly.
- Communicate proper use and set up of equipment.
- Fix minor damage to equipment and/or report problems to assistant director.
- Apply late and damage fees when appropriate. Communicate to director if there is a problem.
Training
- Attend new hire training
- Complete all training required by human resources
- Attend mandatory staff meetings
Qualifications
- Comfortable at a height of up to 35’
- Physically able to belay, work outside, and lift heavy equipment
- CPR and First Aid Certified (within first six months)
- Staff should be competent to use hand tools and general cleaning equipment
