Nature & Purpose of Position
The student will provide administrative support to the department administrator for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs & Polytechnic College. Some but not all duties will include:
- General clerical work such as data entry, copying, filing, supply management, receives and distributes mail, assisting with special projects and events as needed, answering telephones, creating purchase orders & travel reports in Chrome River, and other duties needed in the daily operations of the office.
- The ability to use office machines: computer, copier, scanner, and fax will be required.
- Student must possess ability to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use the Outlook Calendar.
- This position requires customer service and reception area management.
Other Requirements for the Position
- Student must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Must be available to work during semester breaks, especially summer.
- Keep an organized and professional work environment.
- Student should be a self-starter, able to follow instructions, takes pride in their work, responsible, reliable, punctual, and able to maintain work place confidentiality.
- Ability to alphabetize and maintain electronic databases and physical files.
- Must be a team player and build good working relationships with staff, faculty, coworkers, and superiors, along with guests/students in the office.
- Student will provide quality customer service on a daily basis to the department administrator for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs & Polytechnic College, Faculty, and end users whether it is written, verbal, or in person.
- Be willing to learn and adapt to a fast paced working environment.
The ideal candidate has a good working knowledge of the University, is professional, responsible, mature, and a great communicator. Candidate is a self-starter, pays attention to detail, can work well with little supervision, accomplishes tasks in a timely and accurate manner, and follows up appropriately. The candidate must take initiative and the ability to identify potential problems and be proactive with solutions.
