Due to its service focus and project management emphasis, the Charge Capture Specialist role supports revenue integrity modernization initiatives and innovative solutions by providing ongoing review of automated charging functions within the Charge Master, EMR and associated processes. In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Charge Capture Specialist is responsible for monitoring charge trends, identifying risks and opportunities, and being an active participant in the ongoing education to physicians, clinical departments, service line leaders and staff on proper usage of charge codes. The individual in this role will assist in the overall goal of creating a positive patient financial experience by ensuring accurate and consistent charging practices.
Competencies and certifications include, but are not limited to:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Revenue Cycle, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Technology, business or other healthcare discipline, preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in healthcare Revenue cycle processes, professional and/or hospital charging, claims billing, and/or coding, Charge Master, audit, accounts payable/receivable, compliance or related experience, required.
- Strong knowledge and background in professional and/or hospital revenue cycle, demonstrating progressive experience within a healthcare organization is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Coding Rules and Regulations required (i.e. CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, APC, and DRG), Coding Certification (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC) preferred.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other web-based applications.
- EPIC end-user experience in a field supportive of duties as described in this job description is preferred.
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm.
