Position summary: Performs the nursing procedures required for the physical and emotionalcomfort and safety of the patient, as directed by the licensed nurse in charge and as authorized by nursing service policy and procedure
General purpose: Administers nursing care to patients
Role qualifications:
Education
- High school graduate or its equivalent preferred
Experience
- Previous experience desirable, but not required
Licenses/Certificate
- Certification as Nursing Assistant preferred
Position responsibilities:
- Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the pediatric, adult or elderly patient’s and family’s diversity; preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights
- Assists with and provides direct patient personal care related to, but not limited to, activities of daily living
- Transports patients and assists with ambulation as needed
- Provides frequent repositioning of patients to reduce or eliminate pressure areas on skin
- Offers emotional support to the patient’s family as needed
- Assists in maintaining a comfortable, orderly, safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and co-workers
- Collects patient data and documents accurately
- Charts procedures and patient care as outlined by policy
- Is familiar with hospital and nursing service policies and procedures
- Participates in learning experiences provided by the charge nurse and in-service programs
- Regards patient chart and activities as confidential
- Reports patient condition to appropriate nursing personnel throughout and at completion of each shift
- Displays a working knowledge of equipment used in the care of patients
- Maintains a good public image of the unit, and the hospital as a whole, when dealing with customers, both internal and external
- Practices good personal health habits
- Performs related duties as required
- Assists Med/Surg staff with monitoring of telemetry alarms
Essential skills and experience:
- Basic computer literacy
- Basic Telemetry Alarm Acknowledgement and EKG interpretation
