Position summary:
Primary responsibilities are twofold. Obtains blood and other specimens for laboratory
procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in infant to geriatric patients.
Also performs clerical duties, computer data entry, and confirms that test results reach the physician. Each employee will give competent care to patients of ages, including pediatrics and the elderly.
General purpose:
Customer relations, quality specimen collection, data management
Role qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Excellent communication skills with the ability to follow instructions, verbal and written
Basic computer proficiency
Desire to accurately complete and maintain documents and records
Ability to understand and exactly follow laboratory protocols and procedures
Ability to understand and comply with relevant clinical and patient care regulations
Position responsibilities:
Actively interacts with patients, nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff
Uses proper phone etiquette and provides customer focused client service
Obtains information for laboratory records, explains procedures, allays fear and elicits co-operation from patients
Ensures positive patient and specimen identification, records appropriate collection information on samples and requisitions
Collects, labels, prepares, and stores specimens for analysis by technologists according to departmental procedures using standard techniques and equipment
Maintains inventory and restocks phlebotomy supplies
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described above
