Job Title: Surgical Coordinator and Billing Manager

Duration: Fulltime/ Direct Hire
We are seeking an experienced Surgical Coordinating and Billing Manager to oversee and enhance the surgical coordination process within our practice. This role combines surgical scheduling, patient interaction, and insurance billing expertise, particularly in dealing with out-of-network benefits. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of insurance processes, be detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills to work effectively with both patients and medical professionals.
Surgical Coordination:
Manage and oversee the scheduling of surgical procedures, ensuring optimal use of operating room time and resources.
Follow up on online surgical inquiries, providing timely and informative responses to potential patients.
Collaborate with surgeons and other medical staff to facilitate smooth surgical operations and address any scheduling conflicts.
Billing and Insurance Management:
Oversee the billing process, ensuring accurate submission of claims to insurance companies, including out-of-network benefits.
Work closely with a third-party billing company to ensure timely claims submission and follow-up on outstanding claims.
Verify insurance coverage and benefits with patients, explaining out-of-network options and the implications for their care.
Ensure proper coding of procedures using ICD-10 codes and other relevant coding systems, correcting any discrepancies as necessary.
Patient Interaction:
Serve as the primary point of contact for patients regarding their surgical experience, insurance questions, and billing inquiries.
Provide education to patients about their financial responsibilities and payment options, including upfront collections.
Address patient concerns and inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Maintain accurate and organized patient records in accordance with HIPAA regulations and practice policies.
Monitor and analyze billing and surgical scheduling metrics to identify areas for improvement.
Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and standards.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, billing, or a related field is preferred.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in surgical coordination and billing management, preferably in an outpatient surgical setting.
Proven experience dealing with out-of-network health insurance and understanding of the associated processes.
Familiarity with surgical coding, including ICD-10 codes.
Technical Skills
Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems; experience with NextGen is preferred.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
