Description
The Clinical Associate I will assume responsibility for the supervision of baccalaureate nursing students who are assigned to perform direct patient care in the hospital, community, and Experiential Learning and Simulation center settings. The person in this position does not hold academic rank.
Job Duties
The Clinical Associate will :
- Provide direct supervision of baccalaureate nursing students approved clinical settings following course, clinical manual and handbook policies and procedures.
- Work with course faculty throughout the semester to meet clinical course expectations.
- Demonstrate competence in clinical teaching as evidenced by scores of 3.0 or higher on clinical evaluations by students.
- Maintain the educational and professional standards set for baccalaureate education utilizing sound teaching principles and current materials.
- Notify the course coordinator and / or the Director of Community Partnerships and Clinical Education regarding any issues with student illness, injury, safety, attendance, medications errors, etc.
- Provide documentation of any issues related to student illness, injury, safety issues, attendance, medication errors, etc.
- Work collaboratively, professionally, and fairly with all members of the healthcare and educational team.
- Assign clinical experiences in accordance with course policies, course and clinical objectives, and students' learning needs.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
- Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
- Serve as a role model for students.
- Demonstrate care and compassion in clinical teaching including providing constructive feedback as appropriate.
- Provide weekly feedback to each student using the approved MSSON and course specific clinical tools.
- Identify students needing remediation at or before midterm and collaborate with the course coordinator to develop an individualized remediation plan.
- Provide feedback and attend midterm and final student clinical conferences in conjunction with MSSON faculty.
- Completes all mandatory Samford University employee online certifications including but not limited to FERPA, Data Security, Sexual Harassment, Clery Act, etc.
- Correctly clock-in, clock-out, and approve hours worked in each bi-weekly pay period using Time Clock Plus.
- Adheres to the SU technology use policies and MSSON Chromebook Agreement.
- Submits all required compliance data to designated MSSON individual.
