USD $54,470.00 - USD $90,783.00 /Yr. Range includes data points from multiple labor markets. Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. Accounting position within the Financial Reporting team of the Corporate Accounting Division. What You'll Do In This Role
- Apply knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles to the preparation and analysis of the statutory-based quarterly/annual financial statements and filings.
- Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with an emphasis on insurance-based concepts to preparation and analysis of the GAAP financial statements.
- Prepare settlement schedules and journal entries for reinsurance treaties. Implementation impact of new treaties or treaty amendments.
- Prepare journal entries to support the financial reporting functions and reconcile account balances to supporting documentation.
- Produce various analytical reports, research items or trends that are unusual and communicate findings to leadership.
- Coordinate with and support external auditors in areas of responsibility applicable to the external audits.
- Utilize familiarity with the Sammons Financial Group (SFG) entities, business units, chart of accounts, profit centers, hierarchies, processes and controls in order to assist the Financial Reporting team meet the department's goals.
- Utilize familiarity with the SFG SAP general ledger systems, policy administration systems, journal entry interface systems and other applicable technology used by the Financial Reporting team.
- Participate in the preparation of statutory and GAAP financial plans.
- Support the Financial Reporting team in special assignments and projects as deemed necessary to meet departmental goals.
- Maintain procedural documentation for all assigned tasks and adhere to processes and procedures in support of the required internal controls.
- Develop and maintain effective, positive and collaborative, working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization including several geographic locations.

- The workload may occasionally demand additional work outside of the company's standard 40-hour work week.

- Bachelor's Degree Accounting Required
- insurance accounting or applicable public accounting experience Preferred
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with individuals outside of Corporate Accounting
- Effective analytical and critical thinking skills and a professional judgement disposition
- Ability to work independently with limited guidance
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and allocate time as needed

- Basic knowledge of insurance industry-specific GAAP and statutory accounting concepts
