What You'll Do In This Role
- Lead and direct investment strategy, manager selection, and oversight of Bermuda portfolios totaling $15 billion.
- Serve as an industry expert and provide thought leadership on key credit topics for Sammons Financial Group Companies' (Sammons Financial Group) Investment Committee, business units, and senior staff as it relates to the Bermuda regulatory regime.
- Provide regular assessment of Sammons Financial Group Asset Management's (SFGAM) credit risk exposures, including concentrations in risky assets, exposure to assets at risk of downgrade or default, and on industry exposures that are subject to severe stress.
- Assess asset manager’s investment process, capabilities and expertise, performance track record, and risk exposures.
- Provide direction to asset managers to ensure portfolio activity, positioning, and risk exposures are consistent with the client’s investment objectives and constraints.
- Challenge asset manager investment decisions and recommendations as necessary.
- Take ownership of and proactively manage portfolio positioning, exposures and risks by sector, credit and downgrade risks, and top issuer exposures.
- Evaluate portfolio management activities, investment recommendations, and overall performance of asset managers to maximize investment results and manage risks.
- Proactively manage consolidated credit risk exposures across managers, entities, and asset classes, and direct asset managers accordingly.
- Retain a deep and thorough understanding of including key factors that can impact the value of SFGAM’s investments, including, but not limited to, Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organization (NRSRO)/National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) rating methodology, regulatory impacts, capital requirements, and drivers of industry/sector/issuer fundamentals throughout the credit cycle.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal investment team members, external key stakeholders, and team members throughout Sammons Financial Group.
- Develop and strive to continually improve investment processes and oversight of the portfolio and third-party asset managers.
- Lead, mentor, and coach Investment Analyst and Associate team.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field Required
- Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field Preferred
- Minimum 10 years' experience with investment valuation, capital markets, and risk management Preferred
- Experience with and deep knowledge of fixed income markets and corporate credit analysis Required
- Experience in fixed income portfolio management, particularly in credit assessment, portfolio construction, and asset and liability management as it related to an insurance company Preferred
- Leadership experience including mentoring, teaching, and training staff in a performance driven culture Required
- Experience with alternative investments, hybrids, limited partnerships, and structured securities Preferred
- Results oriented, with an established track record of delivering strong performance results
- Strong quantitative capabilities and risk management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present clear and concise recommendations to other senior leaders within the business
- Demonstrated continuing knowledge of financial and insurance industry developments and best practices
