Patient Services Specialist - Local Family Practice in Bastrop is looking for a talented, calm, compassionate, professional team member. Our goal is to restore the quality of life in each of the families we serve to build stronger communities! The desired candidate will have experience carrying out job functions with a high level of confidentiality, handling high volume, multi-line phone calls, scheduling appointments, and using an EMR system. Must have excellent customer service skills - on the phone and in person - as well as the ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail. Must be flexible in daily assignments, rotating in Call Center, Insurance, Billing, Check-in, and Check-out, medical assisting. Must have excellent data entry skills - with the ability to learn and navigate through several computer screens. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Bilingual in Spanish required.

Duties Include:

  • Rotates as Call Center, Insurance, Billing, medical assisting, Check-in, and Check-out as required
  • Offers a calm, compassionate, and pleasant demeanor when interacting with patients and other team members in a high volume office setting
  • Carries out team mission around customer service excellence by prioritizing calls with a focus on same day appointments and minimal wait time
  • Carries out job functions with a high level of confidentiality
  • Answers multi phone lines promptly and in a polite and professional manner
  • Listens attentively to establish chief complaint and assess pain level, if any
  • Demonstrates exceptional problem resolution skills using sound judgment in handling patients
  • Schedules patient appointments for diagnostic exams and procedures
  • Informs caller of items to bring to appointment
  • Records new patient demographic information; verifies/corrects current patient information
  • Verifies insurance information or updates existing information including determination of benefit coverage
  • Informs patient of required payment
  • Provides direct support to providers using tasking, authorization, and referral activities
  • Reminds patient of cancellation/no show policy
  • Obtains and enters accurate patient data into the electronic health record system; creates, reviews, and implements system flags
  • Assigns tasks to providers and other team members as needed for authorization, denial, and appeals process information
  • Answers questions and offers other information, as requested, to provide patient-focused service and a positive impression of the office
  • Directs and transfers calls to appropriate staff person or takes/delivers message as requested
  • Calls and reminds patients of upcoming appointments
  • Calls patients to reschedule appointments when necessary
  • Processes Medical Records requests
  • Retrieves insurance authorizations for imaging orders and referrals to specialist
  • Verifies insurance is active and patients account is flagged according to the insurance benefits
  • Logs out of work station when not in use in accordance with HIPAA Compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to:

  • Handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Comply with HIPAA and OSHA training requirements
  • Communicate effectively on the telephone and in person
  • Relate to persons with diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Work in a fast-paced, multi-task driven environment
  • Exercise good judgment to handle calls appropriately
  • Demonstrate good customer service
  • Use electronic health record system, navigating through multiple screens
  • Be proficient in the use of ICD-10, and CPT codes
  • Be proficient on Greenway EHR system
  • Be proficient in insurance knowledge and pre-certification including navigating websites for online benefit reviews.

Hours: Mon-Thurs 7:20a-4:20p with a 30 minute lunch. Fri 7:20a-1:20p

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
