PAY GRADE: 64

SALARY RANGE: $36,132-$55,992/yr

Responsibilities:

• Provide essential healthcare services to patients, including maternal health, child health, adult health, immunizations, and disease prevention.
• Conduct patient interviews, obtain vital signs, administer vaccinations, and perform essential clinical procedures.
• Educate patients on health-related topics and assist in developing personalized care plans.
• Participate in community outreach programs and emergency response efforts.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from a state-accredited practical nursing program.
• One year of practical nursing experience, with a preference for experience in public health or a related field.
• Current North Carolina practical nurse license.
• Basic CPR certification.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: To provide care and treatment of clients under nursing supervision. The employee will work with a variety of patients including maternal health, child health, adult health, immunizations, family planning, tuberculosis, STDs, and other communicable diseases. This position will interview patients, obtain vital signs, administer vaccinations per standing order, perform testing such as hearing and vision, provide patient education per plan of care developed by the medical provider or RN, and document completely in the patient's EHR. When needed this position will serve as a team member during outreach projects such as flu vaccine clinics, COVID vaccine clinics, disease outbreaks, and emergency shelters.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of organization and administration of public health nursing programs preventive measures, community resources, general clinic, and other standards of public health. Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for recommended and acceptable clinical practices. Working knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. Working knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Working knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as pertains to work responsibilities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education and one year of practical nurse experience, which includes advanced or in-service training in the area to which assigned; or Graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education including a pharmacology course, or completion of an approved pharmacology course upon graduation, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the administration of medications required by the work setting; or An equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed to practice as a practical nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing; Certified in basic CPR life support.
