Local southern Illinois construction company looking for a surveyor to join our team!
Position Summary
The Construction Surveyor will work closely with the Survey Manager. Must be willing to take direction and follow work assignments. This position requires the use of computers, survey equipment, understanding of survey software and the ability to perform surveying tasks.
The position may be filled by either an experienced candidate or one who has less experience but is willing to learn through on-the-job training. Training/job shadowing is provided regardless of knowledge level to ensure accuracy and reliability are being performed. Also, to guarantee the proper methods are being followed. Only those with an eagerness to learn, who will show up each day for work, flexible to accept changing schedules, and accept responsibility need apply.
Responsibilities
- Travel (company vehicle) to various jobsites in the area and work with site supervisors
- Setup survey instruments and associated equipment
- Layout/staking for pavement construction
- Survey existing terrain and features for mapping.
- Survey measurements of soil or rock grade to evaluate elevations for grading.
- Layout/staking for building construction
- Install files into construction equipment for GPS or Total Station machine control.
- Setup base station poles and calibrate bases for future use.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of mathematics and geometry to understand concepts and assignments.
- Ability to operate handheld computer/tablet with software utilized for survey layout.
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, etc.
- Computer skills to help understand various software applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the commercial construction industry
- Previous experience with surveying equipment, methods, and procedures
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand or move throughout the worksite when needed
- Occasional heavy lifting is required to carry equipment, stakes, tools, etc. for surveying.
