Samsill's history of the company traces back to a cornfield south of Seymour, Texas, in 1941. It was officially formed as the dream of two young brothers. Cecil and Tirey Samsill, two of twenty-three children, decided “there must be a better way to make a living” while working the fields one hot summer day, and made a solemn vow right then and there that when they grew up, they would go into business together.

Samsill started as Samsill Brothers Plastic Company; the first products were folded and sewn by hand and included shop cardholders, menu covers, and protectors of all sizes. Over the years, the company evolved into Samsill Corporation and expanded its product offerings. Today, Samsill is the only manufacturer of ring binders in the United States. Samsill is regarded for quality and innovative office organization solutions through a wide product selection including binders, padfolios, professional business accessories, and much more.

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assembling manufactured products and packs according to specifications. The Hang Line Operator maintains appropriate levels of raw materials at machines and takes away finished products according to written specifications. In addition, they provide the maintenance of assembled equipment, analyze it, and ensure any issues are dealt with accordingly. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Read work order to determine material types, skids to be used, and correct stacking configurations.
  • Stamp and label boxes to be used on orders.
  • Place correct and accurate paperwork on each skid (pink ticket).
  • Keep box packing conveyor full for packing person.
  • Set up tape machine during changeover.
  • Stack finished product on skids, wrap if calls for.
  • Use a pallet jack and take the finished skids of product to pick-up area.
  • Clean up area throughout shift.
  • Notify operator or Team Lead of any production issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, & divide in an units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions & decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and use a calculator. Must have good visual ability to identify quality and safety issues.
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • A high school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Previous manufacturing experience (preferred).

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee may lift to 50 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to working near moving mechanical parts; work in high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
