Position Summary:
Samsung Research America is seeking a passionate and collaborative Director of R&D, Health Device Hardware to join our Digital Health team in Mountain View, CA. As a Director of R&D, Health Device Hardware, you will work closely with an experienced, collaborative and entrepreneurial team that strives to develop innovative digital health products including wearables and mobile devices backed by world-class research, technical, and manufacturing capabilities. As a cross-disciplinary health-focused product development team consisting of research, technology, design, strategy, and product functions, you have the opportunity to define the next generation of mobile and wearable health products. You will be responsible for architecting, designing and building hardware prototypes and sensors that help users better manage their health. You will also work with academic and startup partners, and help mature the very best health hardware technologies from feasibility through production. Position Responsibilities:
We are looking for a self-motivated Director of R&D, Health Device Hardware with the following key responsibilities:
- Manage a team of engineers focused on developing health devices, and collaborate with hardware teams across global locations.
- Work closely with product management to understand product requirements and design a hardware and system architecture that meets those requirements.
- Work closely with external and internal partners to design and prototype new health hardware concepts for consumer electronics devices, including regulated medical devices.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (design, user research, industrial design, software, algorithms) to define, design and develop new products from concept to production.
- Identify and champion the development of differentiated new technologies and contribute to Samsung’s product & technology roadmap.
Required Skills:
- Ph.D./ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- 14 years’ experience in hardware development and hardware manager roles, preferably including experience in developing consumer-oriented medical devices or health products
- Experience with FDA regulatory processes and Quality Management processes for regulatory clearance of medical products
- Proven experience managing cross-functional hardware and firmware teams, preferably focused on health and medical devices
- Strong knowledge of physiological sensing, and experience building regulated medical devices under a quality management system
- Experience building and launching low power consumer electronics products which are used by millions of users
- Experience building form-factor hardware prototypes in a JDM or outsourced model
- Strong communication/presentation skills with experience presenting to senior leadership
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and achieving success through collaboration
- Proven Project and Team leadership
- Experience working successfully as part of a global team with collaborators located in various regions
- Ability to deal with ambiguity associated with working in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally (20%)
