Description: The J Camp Lead Counselor plays a crucial role in mentoring staff and ensuring a fun, safe, and positive experience for campers. This position requires a strong ability to lead and supervise a group of campers, plan activities, and maintain a clean environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for a group of campers under their care.
- Participate in and supervise activities during J Camp.
- Plan and lead camp activities.
- Clean spaces used for J Camp before leaving.
- Support counselors in learning new skills, including behavior management, activity planning, and rule enforcement.
- Support the emotional and social wellbeing of kids through positive behavior management, supportive interactions, and conflict resolution.
- Supervise campers during field trips.
- Communicate regularly with the J Camp staff team.
- Evaluate children's needs and ensure they get where they need to go as directed by the J Camp leadership team.
- Serve as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside the center.
- Follow emergency procedures at the SJCC.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed.
- Ongoing duties assigned by supervisors.
Requirements:
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children through an approved certifying body.
- Experience working with children.
- Openness to learning and professional growth.
