The Samuel and Althea Stroum Jewish Community Center is seeking a Summer Camp Activity Coordinator to play a vital role in mentoring staff to reach their full potential.
As a key member of the J Camp team, you will be responsible for ensuring a fun, safe, and positive experience for your designated group of campers.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor a group of campers to guarantee a rewarding and secure camp experience by promoting a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
- Participate actively in and oversee activities during J Camp, including pool supervision, while prioritizing camper safety and well-being.
- Plan and lead engaging camp activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities, fostering a sense of community and teamwork among campers and staff alike.
- Maintain cleanliness of spaces used for J Camp before departure, adhering to health and safety standards.
- Support counselors in developing skills such as behavior management, activity planning, and rule enforcement, providing guidance and feedback to ensure successful outcomes.
- Foster the emotional and social well-being of children through positive behavior management, supportive interactions, and conflict resolution strategies.
- Escort campers during field trips, including bus transportation, ensuring timely arrival and departure.
- Maintain open communication with the J Camp staff team through regular updates and meetings, promoting transparency and collaboration.
- Ensure children reach their destinations as directed by the J Camp leadership team, prioritizing camper needs and safety above all else.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for the Samuel and Althea Stroum Jewish Community Center within and outside its premises, upholding the organization's values and mission.
- Adhere to emergency procedures at the SJCC, demonstrating preparedness and responsiveness in times of need.
- Perform weekend and evening work as needed to meet deadlines or scheduling requirements, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the role.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed, requiring adaptability and a willingness to learn and grow.
Requirements:
- Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults, infants, and children, issued by an approved certifying body, ensuring the highest level of care and safety.
- Have experience and/or training working with children, understanding their unique needs and developmental stages.
- Display openness to learning and professional development, embracing opportunities for growth and improvement.
