POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to initiate and develop practical, cost effective and fully functional structural designs and design drawings for any type of project that involves structural engineering through completion for the assigned project. Specifically, structural engineering as it pertains to foundation design and detailing, concrete design and detailing, structural steel design and detailing and steel fabrication. The scope of this position requires an individual to perform a Structural Designer role on any project with respect to the development of Structural designs and the generation of structural design drawings and the coordination of these designs with the other disciplines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develops complex Structural engineering design drawings.
- Applies a solid level of understanding within the Structural discipline.
- Understands codes, permits, and software applications related to Structural discipline.
- Fully understands the process of preparing design drawings using project specifications and discipline associated instructions in accordance with established practices, standards and procedures.
- Basic understanding of Structural Engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support other designers and overall project design.
- Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews vendor supplied documents for accuracy and project compliance. Can also review other disciplines vendor documents.
- Understands compliance of engineering efforts, project schedule, controls, estimates and company procedures with assistance from the Lead Structural Designer and Project Engineer.
- Uses initiative and judgment in evaluating, modifying and applying design practices and techniques.
- Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project.
- Is proficient in the use of the company’s Structural design software.
- Knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline.
- Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change.
- May provide technical guidance and assistance to other less experienced design and draft personnel.
- May be required to act as a design consultant to other organizations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Sr. Designer IV - Education = Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; Experience = 10 years
Sr. Designer III - Education = Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; Experience = 12 years
Sr. Designer II - Education = Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; Experience = 14 years
Sr. Designer I - Education = Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; Experience = 15 years
