POSITION SUMMARY
The Buyer position will provide projects with procurement support preparing tender documents, soliciting quotations, placing purchase orders and expediting equipment, commodities and services as required.
Work includes preparation of RFQs, reviewing proposals, talking to vendors, examining price, suitability, and availability of items or services, comparing specifications, reviewing alternatives, tabulating bids, awarding orders, expediting orders and processing invoices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare purchase orders through a computerized system (Prism) and place orders for the purchase of goods and services in a timely manner as required for both project and in-house needs.
- Obtain written and oral price quotes from vendors.
- Compare quotations with specifications and other contract terms and conditions and places orders.
- Organize, update and retain product information files and purchase order records.
- Obtain appropriate equipment and commodities in a timely manner.
- Interview vendors and evaluate their products and capabilities as a supplier.
- Prepare bid tabulations and recommendations on vending sources.
- Assist with approving and processing vendor invoices for payment.
- Requires frequent contact with vendors and suppliers.
- Works under general direction from Project Managers and/or Manager of Procurement and Logistics, in accordance with Procurement procedures. Project Managers will provide specific instruction regarding work products, deadlines, priorities and budget constraints.
- Supervision, administration and technical assignments are given by the Manager of Procurement and Logistics.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience
- At least two years of responsible buying experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in full suite of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
- Requires accurate, timely and effective purchasing skills and the ability to review, verify and process requisitions and purchase orders.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Knowledge of common business practices relating to the purchase, pricing, terms, shipment, taxes and payment for equipment, commodities and services.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Relationship building and negotiation skills.
- Experience with global logistics a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional travel to jobsites, manufacturing facilities, other engineering offices and client offices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work will be mainly conducted in-office, however, employee may be assigned to work at off-site locations from time to time. Overtime will be required at times to make deadlines.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
Occasional domestic and/or international travel, and field assignments for periods of up to 4 to 8 weeks. However, most travel will likely be to fabrication shops or manufacturing facilities for inspection purposes lasting less than one week.
