POSITION TITLE: Construction Worker
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Welder Foreman
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
Primary Purpose
Work on construction projects using multiple tasks, including welding, installing concrete, installing and repairing playground equipment and fencing.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED, preferred
Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of equipment, materials, practices, and tools used in welding trade
Ability to read blueprints and schematics, and written reference materials
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience
One year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; clear driving record
Major Responsibilities
Maintenance, Repair and Inventory
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight line.
- Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications.
- Position joint, align, and seal pipe sections.
- Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
- Apply caulking compounds by hand or with a caulking gun to seal crevices.
- Grind, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring.
- ARC weld metals which includes flat metal and pipe.
- Read blueprints and diagrams and assemble equipment.
- Perform general cement work.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
- Work irregular hours as needed.

- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor.
