Under direct supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Fountains Specialist will be responsible for the Spring Startup and winterization of all features in the Garden. They will also manage the testing and inspection of the interactive water feature, conducting required maintenance of all water features, installation and remodel of new and existing systems and the record keeping of all work. This position will require communication and teamwork, in addition to independent work in multiple areas. This position is expected to work Tuesday thru Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Schedule may change due to workload.

Specifically, the Fountains Specialist will have responsibility for the following activities:

Maintain water feature systems, considering water supply, static water pressure, working water pressure, precipitation rate and existing or planned improvements.

In conjunction with the Irrigation Specialist, maintain water mains, steel, copper and PVC pipes and hydraulic systems.

Prepare and execute winterization procedures to protect the mechanical and electrical assets of the Garden.

Diagnose and repair faulty systems, leak detection, pump repair/ replacement and coordinate with contractors for additional support when needed.

Electrical Troubleshooting and repairs for all related control systems.

Manage water treatment, as a Certified Pool Operator for interactive splash pad per state laws and regulations.

Repair or replace inner parts of pumps, cisterns and related mechanical components.

Adjust controllers seasonally and apply when needed for variances to comply with SAWS rules and regulations and off-season use.

Investigate and recommend corrective action for defective water feature systems.

Perform other duties to as needed to assist Facilities team during special projects.

Knowledge in the use of AutoCAD to maintain a current layout of the Gardens infrastructure.

The Fountains Specialists installs, maintains, operates, repairs, troubleshoots underground supply lines, mechanical rooms and all equipment as well as maintaining logs for audits. The Specialist will also conduct inventory of tools, equipment, or materials related to ensure that sufficient supplies are available, and items are in usable condition. This position will be responsible for the entire Botanical Garden in both public and non-public areas to meet or exceed the San Antonio Botanical Gardens standards for operational excellence.

Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in pool maintenance, electrical, plumbing and hydraulic applications.

Must possess or be able to obtain, within thirty days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and Certified Pool and Spa Operator or NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb a ladder, bend, kneel, and squat.

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Equipment used for this job is (but not limited to) hand tools, power tools, skid steer, backhoe, roto hammer drills, multifunction electrical tester, wire locator, continuity testers.

Knowledge of water usage rates and water conservation measures for

drought situations.

Knowledge of all pool products and equipment and hydraulics principles.

Knowledge of sizing pipe materials.

Knowledge of basic backflow principles.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to inspect and read blueprints.

Ability to design and modify pump systems.

Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to damp/wet surfaces, hazardous materials, flammable liquids, and dust.

Work is most frequently performed outdoors, but may be performed in greenhouses, maintenance facilities or grounds of the Botanical Garden.

Expected to perform under minimum supervision and act independently within the scope of normal duties and responsibilities. Difficult or unique situations are referred to the Supervisor.

Work will be performed in areas with frequent high levels of visitation, requiring excellent customer service and professionalism at all times while balancing the need for productivity.

On occasion required to work extended hours.

Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the individual.
