The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Fleet Mechanic, you are responsible for skilled and semi-skilled labor tasks in a wide variety of job assignments regarding the Zoo vehicles and amusement rides. You will work closely with the Lead Mechanic on a daily basis to assess and complete all assigned tasks and projects.
As a Fleet Mechanic, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Assure that the fleet vehicles and equipment are kept safe and proper repair.
- Maintain and perform maintenance repairs on the vehicles, amusement rides, equipment, and buildings.
- Diagnose and correct mechanical problems with all vehicles, equipment, small engines, and exhibit equipment.
- Order materials and parts as necessary, including shop equipment and supplies
- Aid with training on different types of vehicles and equipment.
- Operate safely Zoo vehicles including train, bobcat, forklift, pick up, dump truck and front-end loader.
- Keeping maintenance records on trucks and equipment.
- Maintaining a clean and organized shop area.
- Oversee a job assignment and ensure job assignments are thoroughly and adequately completed
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
- Constantly exhibit a guest service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service.
- Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist guests with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the guest - do not wait to be asked.
- Remove trash and debris from public areas.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and after-hour assignments.
- Able to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions applicable to the Zoo environment.
- Able to read, write, and understand English.
- Knowledge of hand tools and simple equipment used in performing assigned jobs.
- Able to perform diagnostic tests to identify and develop corrective action plans in automotive mechanical systems.
- Able to keep proper documentation on preventive maintenance and work performed on the fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
