What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waste Management/Truck Driver [Full-Time] position at San Antonio Zoo?
As Waste Management Driver, you are responsible for the daily operation of a refuse and recycling collection vehicle in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. You represent San Antonio Zoo® with the highest of integrity not only onsite, but also on the road when transporting recyclables to designated off-site locations for drop-off. You are also instrumental in assisting the Maintenance team in the relocation of product and materials when needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Inspecting vehicle to ensure proper mechanical functioning and prepares it for daily use.
- Collect refuse and recyclable materials on assigned routes and transports to appropriate sites.
- Removes trash bags from all designated service areas.
- Cleans truck daily after operating.
- Safely operating 4 speed and 5 speed commercial vehicles.
- Ability to safely operate large manual equipment: skid steers with all related attachments, fork lifts, backhoes.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
- Constantly exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo® to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments
- Able to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions. Applicable to the Zoo environment.
- High school diploma or GED certification.
- Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles.
- At least one year of experience operating 4 speed and 5 speed commercial vehicles.
- Ability to safely maneuver a 6-yard dump truck in tight areas.
- A valid Texas class C driver’s license is required.
- A clean driving record and proof of insurability.
We enjoy year-round operation for all staff and must be available days, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
