Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has a full-time opportunity for a Public Affairs Advocacy Manager in San Bernardino, CA. The San Bernardino County Advocacy Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Community Organizer within the county, which includes recruiting, cultivating, and maintaining relationships with community members and advocates to establish and sustain a strong and progressive base of community support for reproductive health care and education. The Advocacy Manager works closely with the Public Affairs Director to guarantee the effective implementation of advocacy plans and strategies in San Bernardino County. Builds a strong relationship with community partners, and progressive coalitions to promote equal access to health care. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of grassroots advocacy, campaigns, or community organizing in the Inland Empire.   • Implement strategies for building a progressive base of support for reproductive health care and education specifically within San Bernardino County.
  • Manage relationships with progressive organizations in the county to advance advocacy goals.
  • With the supervision of the Public Affairs Director, oversee the daily activities of community organizer to ensure the timely and effective completion of tasks.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve existing advocacy and outreach programs to ensure they remain innovative and relevant.
  • Collaborate with the Community Organizers and Marketing Team to integrate social media into larger advocacy efforts.
  • Assist the Public Affairs Director in developing and managing relationships with targeted community organizations in San Bernardino County.
  • In conjunction with the Public Affairs Director give presentations on behalf of the Community Action Fund at public events, meetings, coalition meetings, etc.
  • Manage online advocacy and volunteer database and programs including the Volunteer Action Network (VAN).
  • Develop creative projects to engage, motivate and educate activists and community supporters in San Bernardino County.
  • Track efficacy of grassroots efforts and work with Public Affairs Director to adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Provide support to the Public Affairs Director and the Public Affairs Department as needed.   Non-Essential Functions :

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s degree (BA / BS) in a relevant field such as Political Science, Communications, or Public Policy and / or the equivalent of four to six years of progressively responsible experience with planning, managing, and implementing strategic advocacy and community organizing plans, especially in a legislative or electoral campaign environment.   Minimum Work Experience :
  • Minimum of 4 (four) years of experience working as a community organizer and / or outreach with communities of color.
  • At least 2 (two) years of experience managing one or more staff. Previous management of organizes a bonus.
  • Effective experience with public speaking and community presentations.
  • Experience generating, editing, and publishing high-quality social media content.
  • General knowledge of different forms of community organizing, including grassroots and digital organizing.
  • Knowledge of mass email marketing programs including EveryAction or similar programs.
  • Knowledge of San Bernardino County’s political environment is highly desirable.   Supervisory Experience :
  • Demonstrated ability as an effective leader including coaching and team-building skills.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Budgeting experience.
  • Excellent strategic planning skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work without direct supervision.   Agency Standard Requirements :

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, rigorous environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Able to effectively manage time to complete tasks within set deadlines
  • Possess strong organizational skills to ensure nothing is overlooked
  • Must demonstrate high level computer skills including; Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with Canva NGP / VAN is a plus.
  • This position requires travel to other sites and locations; if using a personal vehicle to meet this requirement, a valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance in compliance with the minimum requirements of CA vehicle code are required.
  • Abortion patients are cared for at each of our health centers and in part through the administrative, support, and other non-clinical services provided at all PPOSBC locations and by all PPOSBC employees, and supporting these critical services is an essential job duty and fundamental responsibility of all employees.
