Job Description
JOB SUMMARY :
Uses knowledge of English and Spanish to provide assistance to certificated staff in academic instruction and language proficiency assessment of students identified as English learners; and performs a variety of related services requiring English and Spanish.
SUPERVISION :
Receives supervision from a manager at or above the level of Coordinator. Receives technical instructions from a teacher and / or other certificated staff member.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Tutors students identified as English learners to improve their proficiency in English and their understanding of curriculum subjects.
- Assists assigned students with challenges related to school achievement as a result of language barriers.
- Promotes the well-being of students by helping them develop a positive attitude / self-image and ability to cooperate and interact with other students and adults.
- Performs a variety of tasks that support classroom instruction.
- Consults with teacher on ways to better meet students' needs.
- Performs related tasks as required in program planning, implementation, and operation regarding assigned students.
- Serves as interpreter as needed.
- Translates correspondence to parents in English or Spanish.
- Administers oral language proficiency and academic tests in English and Spanish to students.
- Transcribes oral answers into written form using state-and District-approved tests.
- Contacts school staff and parents to explain meaning of test scores obtained.
- Tests students on a one-to-one basis.
- Verifies student cumulative record information.
- Posts, maintains, and updates testing data.
- May travel from one work location to another, using personal transportation.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
