The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking a Public Relations Supervisor* to develop, implement, and evaluate communication strategies, plans, and materials to promote the Department.
The incumbent will perform a variety of complex job duties including preparing press releases; overseeing community outreach and education for the Department; addressing community groups and the general public on behalf of the Department; working in collaboration with the County Chief Communications Officer and Public Information Officer; supervising the work of Public Relations and Outreach staff, assigning and evaluating work, handling hiring and disciplinary actions; participating in top-level decision-making including matters related to public relations and communications; preparing and monitoring program budgets; overseeing the planning and implementation of all major department events; directing and overseeing the production of department publications such as newsletters, catalogues, reports, and brochures to the public.
The Public Relations Supervisor will be expected to handle high profile incidents while exercising a high level of judgement and discretion in advising executive management on public and community relations matters while maintaining an effective working relationship with the media. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies, as they occur, within the Department of Behavioral Health.

DBH is a unique County Department comprised of eight (8) direct service areas: Community Outpatient and Transitional Age Youth Services; Youth Collaborative and Justice Involved Services; Substance Use Disorder and Recovery Services; 24 Hour and Specialty Services; Adult Justice Involved and Diversion Services; Medical Services; Community Engagement and Equity Services; Office of Patients' Rights and five (5) indirect service areas: Administrative and Fiscal Services; Public Relations and Outreach Services; Program Support Services; Disaster and Safety Unit; and the Office of Compliance. The Department currently has a workforce in excess of 1000 positions and an approximate $700 million-dollar annual budget.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of full-time, professional-level administrative experience developing, implementing, and evaluating communication strategies, plans, and materials in promotion of a public agency.
Qualifying experience must include at least one (1) year of full-scope supervisory experience over a support services staff. (Experience must be clearly detailed in the Work Experience section of the Application.)
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A completed Bachelor's degree in Public/Business Administration, Behavioral/Social Science, Journalism, Marketing, or other relevant field of study obtained from an accredited college/university. (This information should be clearly indicated in the Education section of the application. A copy of your degree/proof of graduation must be attached.)
NOTE: Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
