Experience: Applicants must be currently employed in a regular full-time position with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff's Detective/Corporal, and have at least thirty (30) months of full-time experience as a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Detective/Corporal as of the filing deadline of April 11, 2025.

The Examination is expected to be administered the week of May 5 - 15, 2025 at a location in the San Bernardino area. Confirmation of date/time/location of the examination will be sent approximately one week after the filing date of this recruitment.
The Written Multiple Choice Test (weighted 35%) will cover the following topics:

The Writing Exercise/Work Simulation (weighted 25%) will be administered on a computer on the same date/time as the Written Test; it will be evaluated only for those candidates who are successful on the Written Test. Candidates must be successful on the Written Test and the Writing Exercise/Work Simulation to have the Promotional Evaluation scored.
The Promotional Evaluation (weighted 40%) will be a competitive evaluation of promotability, based on a departmental review of applicants' knowledge, skills, and abilities. Only those candidates who are successful on the Written Test and the Writing Exercise/Work Simulation will have the Promotional Evaluation scored.
Final grades will be based on a combination of the Written Test, Writing Exercise/Work Simulation, and the Promotional Evaluation.
