What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant - Extra Help position at San Bernardino County?
Duties may include but not limited to:
- Animal handling, restraint, sample collection for laboratory submission.
- Obtaining radiographs, vitals, charting, administering medications, performing grooming tasks, maintaining a clean environment for our patients.
- Preparing surgical equipment, ensuring all instruments are sterilized, operating rooms are set up, all other necessary surgical supplies are prepared and available for use.
- Assist in pre and post operation anesthesia, care of patients, monitoring vitals, providing heat sourcing, and clean up as needed.
- Assist in the movement of patients and surgical flow. Be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently.
- Following medical protocols established by the attending DVM.
- Perform intake of animals into the shelter, including health screening, vaccine / deworming / flea prevention administration, and any other treatment or prescription as instructed by DVM or RVT.
- Observe, monitor, and document all animals in the shelter for clinical signs of disease, illness, or injury.
- Assist in inventory management restocking of supplies.
- Other tasks as directed by DVM or RVT.
Euthanasia: Must be able to perform euthanasia of sick, injured, or non-adopted impounded animals. May be exposed to euthanasia and animal tranquilizer drugs.

Salary : $37,586 - $50,419
