Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality of life for everyone who calls this region home. The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is both a metropolitan planning organization and a council of governments, bringing together local decision-makers to develop solutions to regional issues including improving equity, transportation, air quality, clean energy, economic development, goods movement, public health, public safety, housing, and more.
Our current focus is to serve as a data-driven agency, speeding up the delivery of exciting, large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the region. This includes building infrastructure to link transit connections, boosting cross-border travel between the U.S. and Mexico with a new, high-tech border crossing facility, and fortifying our coastal railway corridor against erosion. Other important SANDAG initiatives include administering the TransNet Program, regional tolling operations, providing a forum for housing needs, and offering funding and technical assistance to member agencies.
Role
The Data Scientist I, II, Associate will contribute as a critical team member in Data Science department to develop data-driven analytics applications across the agency and support various agency priority projects. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys analytical and critical thinking and problem solving who is highly organized, hands-on, flexible, and can be relied upon to meet deadlines with changing priorities.
Salary Range :
This position will be filled at the I, II, or Associate level depending on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Data Scientist II : $79,622-$123,427
Associate Data Scientist : $92,206-$142,938
Job Responsibilities
- Perform data mining, data discovery and scientific analysis of large data sets and translate findings into digestible information and visualization to support various agency priority projects.
- Support multiple highly visible agency priority projects involving statistical analysis of various data sources and model development using a variety of algorithms. Determine the data to be used, develop methodology, and write the statistical programming required to generate results.
- Research and develop analytics using critical thinking capability; ensure accuracy of information; maintain databases, and documentation.
- Collect and process data using various software applications and programs, develop databases, document data files, run programs, identify and resolve data inconsistencies.
- Participate in Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA / QC) processes to improve process and quality.
- Prepare written technical and analytical reports and present findings and recommendations to a variety of audiences.
