Position Title: Director of Information Technology
FLSA: Full-time, Exempt (salaried) plus benefits
Salary: $140,000 - $150,000 annually (depending on experience)
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

San Diego Blood Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization also operating as Southern California Blood Bank. We serve hospitals in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We are the primary blood provider to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and the safety net for hospitals in our region. Every year, more than 150,000 units of blood provided by San Diego Blood Bank are transfused into patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout Southern California. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more.

Under general direction of the VP of Hospital Services, the Director of Information Technology (IT) plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Information Technology department to meet the needs of the organization. The Director of IT manages a staff of professional employees, works closely with other departments to coordinate client support, and develops and monitors standards, service level agreements and initiates policies and procedures related to information technology. The Director of IT oversees software development efforts of the organization.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE (Key Responsibilities):
- Identifies new technology to solve business problems
- Develops department plans, goals and budgets; identifies resources needed, develops schedules and methods for measuring results.
- Plans, implements and controls information technology hardware and software operations.
- Guides and performs strategic analysis for information technology projects.
- Organizes and manages all phases of projects to ensure on-time completion.
- Oversees and sets priorities for software development projects.
- Prioritizes projects, assembles, and coordinates project team members; assigns individual responsibilities.
- Prepares requests for proposals and conducts all necessary meetings to facilitate selection of information technology services and products.
- Monitors contracts including review and approval of pay requests and change orders; maintains regular communication with service providers.
- Develops policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ensures compliance with FDA current good manufacturing practices and good documentation guidelines related to information systems.
- Adheres to all federal and state laws, regulations and statutes and accreditation standards.
- Adheres to related regulatory and best practice guidelines for cybersecurity.
- Embodies and promotes an overall culture of compliance that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with laws, regulations and standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must be able to work on a computer for 8 hours a day.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and plan work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to anticipate potential issues and proactively respond.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, including time-sensitive tasks.
- Ability to develop and maintain close and collaborative working relationships with key partners.
WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with Oracle, MS SQL, Windows Client and Server Operating System, and telephony preferred.
- Experience managing a team of direct reports for at least 5 years preferred.
