Position Overview
SDCC plays a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and management of the admission recruitment program. Counselors are expected to attract the best possible pool of candidates to support the school’s enrollment objectives. The successful candidate must design and coordinate admissions outreach services and associated events. The position requires the counselor to establish and deliver a wide range of advisement and liaison services. The counselor is essential in the evaluation of applicant files for enrollment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Achieve specific enrollment goals and university objectives, ensuring alignment with the institution’s strategic plan.
- Advises students and families regarding educational opportunities and options, admission and other requirements, policies and procedures, and financial assistance, as appropriate.
- Implements outreach programs, events, and activities for recruitment and enrollment of students from targeted communities.
- Assists with creating and distributing a range of resource and promotional materials designed for the recruitment and retention of students in targeted groups.
- Reviews individual applications and evaluates candidates for admission eligibility; troubleshoots applications with problems and oversees and/or coordinates communications with applicants.
- . Maintains communication via telephone, correspondence, and/or electronic mail with prospective students through all stages of the recruitment, admission, and enrollment process.
- Keep accurate records of recruiting activities and contacts.
- Assist with other student service projects and events as requested.
- Interacts regularly with SDCC enrollment leadership team to develop recruiting strategies and partnerships.
- The position potentially requires evening and weekend work and travel. A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and reliable transportation are required.

- Prepared to exercise interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with prospective students and their families, faculty, staff, and other external contacts.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including public speaking skills.
- Must possess strong detail and time management skills.
- Capability to work independently and accomplish tasks under deadline stresses.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
- Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
- Excellent telephone courtesy, knowledge, and experience.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; two to four years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, reach, see, key, hear, work independently, communicate effectively, lift and carry up to 20 lbs. (with or without assistance). This position requires long periods of sitting, standing, walking, keying, and hand/eye coordination for emailing and viewing data on a computer monitor.
Mental Activities
Frequent oral communication, reading, writing, calculating, reasoning, analyzing.
