PRIMARY PURPOSE
To ensure a high standard of safety compliance at the Equestrian Center by performing general maintenance checks of the equestrian grounds and ensuring that all equestrian facilities remain clean and in good repair.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
o Perform daily facility inspections.
o Repair water systems, corrals, stalls, and barns.
o Inspect, clean, maintain and store equipment and report on equipment condition.
o Ensure that equipment and work areas are clean, secured.
o Check inventory.
o Perform general landscaping duties.
o Maintain arenas, round pens and cross-country jumps.
o Perform general construction, repair, painting, and cleaning of facilities.
o Assist with preparation activities for equestrian shows and events.
o Attend monthly OSHA safety training sessions, inspections and meetings.
o Irrigate and drag facilities, including maintenance of dirt roads using Equestrian Dept. tractors, drags, trucks.
o Perform other related duties as required or requested by manager or Equestrian Maintenance Lead.
AMOUNT OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position receives daily, frequent supervision and instruction from Equestrian Manager and Equestrian Maintenance Lead.
INTERACTION WITH OTHERS
This position interacts constantly with equestrian personnel and landscape maintenance personnel. This position interacts frequently with customers and users of equestrian facilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling and pushing. Incumbent frequently walks and reaches above and below the shoulder. This position requires the incumbent to rake, dig, clip, saw and climb daily. Incumbent will use picks, shovels, tractors, backhoes, weeders, sanders, sprayers, mowers, edgers, chain saws and other hand and power tools. Incumbent must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Good close and distance vision, good depth perception and ability to adjust focus are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the incumbent to work out of doors daily, for the entire day, on smooth and/or rough terrain. The position requires the individual to work around horses and to perform duties in frequently damp, windy, cold, or hot weather conditions. Work is occasionally performed for long periods of time and sometimes during unusual hours, and incumbent may occasionally encounter snakes, insects, and wildlife.
USE OF DISCRETION AND INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
This position is responsible for using judgment in the case of emergency or non-emergency issues while Equestrian Manager or Equestrian Maintenance Lead is absent. Discretion to be used daily.
EFFECT OF POSITION ON ORGANIZATION OR ON ORGANIZATION’S CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS
This position represents the company daily to clients/boarders and facility users and must portray a professional appearance and demeanor.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
o Education: A high school degree or equivalent is preferred but not required.
o Experience: At least one year of experience working with power and hand tools, landscaping equipment, and in and around barns or stables is preferred. Experience driving large farm equipment such as a water truck and “dragger” preferred.
o Communication skills: The position requires good customer service skills. Also requires good oral and written communication skills, bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
o Mathematical skills: No math skills required.
o Computer skills: No specific computer skills are required.
o Reasoning ability and other skills: Requires the ability to recognize when customers are not adhering to rules and when to bring situations to the attention of the Equestrian Manager. Person should be able to recognize when a horse is in physical or other trouble in order to bring it to the attention of the Equestrian Manager or trainer. Also requires good organizational and time-management skills.
o Certificates, licenses: A valid California driver’s license is required.

Pay: $16.50 - $18.00 per hour
