The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Student Attendant for the South County SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) Department of the Student Services and Programs Division. This position performs duties of average difficulty in caring for children and young adults who have severe physical and/or intellectual disabilities in a program of instruction; provides clerical and instructional assistance to special education teachers; and performs maintenance and custodial duties involved in tending the needs of students including feeding, dressing, toileting, and movement.
As a special education school located in Chula Vista, Davila Day School is operated by the South County Special Education Local Plan Area in affiliation with the San Diego County Office of Education. We serve preschool through eighth-grade students from schools throughout San Diego County. Davila Day School has seven classrooms including two preschool classes, two lower elementary classes, and two upper elementary classes. This position requires any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to college-level course work in general academic subject areas such as math, science, and English, and previous successful experience working with and caring for students with disabilities similar to those described above.
Candidates must also demonstrate Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, previously referred to as the NCLB Act) compliance. In order to satisfy the paraprofessional requirements of the ESSA, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND,
• Completion of at least 48 semester units at an institution of higher education; OR
• Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; OR
• Successful completion of an assessment*, administered by the San Diego County Office of Education, in basic reading, writing, mathematics skills, and the ability to assist with instruction.
*The ESSA exam will be administered by the SDCOE HR office to candidates who meet minimum requirements for the classification.
Certificates and Licenses:
• A valid Food Handlers Card issued by the San Diego County Department of Health Services is required within 30 days of appointment.
• Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certificate is required at time of appointment.
