The Operations & Maintenance Department
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Department is responsible for operating the Water Authority's aqueduct delivery system; ensuring facility security and emergency preparedness; and maintaining and managing the fleet and various other assets. Specifically, the department controls water deliveries to meet member agency demands; manages dam and reservoir operations; ensures water quality; oversees water treatment plant and power generation operations; maintains all vehicles and heavy equipment; provides electro-mechanical support; implements the Asset Management Program (AMP); complies with all applicable environmental regulations; and develops and manages computerized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and system maintenance programs.

The Water Authority is looking for a Student Intern in the Corrosion Control group. The recruitment will remain open until filled.
Student Interns receive real-world work experience in the field of water operations and prepare for job opportunities after graduation by obtaining professional work experience to build their resume. Students will gain an insight into the water supply business and the innerworkings of a multi-discipline operation. The Student Intern will work under direct supervision to support a professional staff in a high-performing, fast-paced environment. Interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of Water Authority activities related to corrosion control, asset management and operations & maintenance. We are looking for individuals who are creative problem solvers with a desire to learn, enjoy working outdoors and seeing the tangible results of their work, are self-motivated, and are passionate about providing an essential service to their community.
The Corrosion Control group is responsible for gathering and analyzing data, troubleshooting, and implementing corrective measures to protect the Water Authority assets from corrosion. The group is also responsible for maintaining the Water Authority’s corrosion control infrastructure, from coatings to cathodic protection. This position will be assigned to provide support both in the field and the office.

- Field survey and testing

- Pipeline and facility inspections
- Perform office and administrative work, including
- Analysis of field and testing data
- Engineering drawing review
- Data input using Excel or other software
- Provide administrative support to professional and technical staff

Education Experience: Candidates must be enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university at a junior or senior class level. Candidates pursuing a degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or closely related field are preferred. Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better in the last 60 semester units.
Skills and Job Knowledge: Candidates for this position should have a basic understanding of electrical theory and chemistry, be confident in mathematics, be willing to assist in light to moderate physical maintenance activities and be comfortable in areas with limited space for an extended period of time. Field activities could include the use of fine hand tools and/or large tools such as shovels for many hours on consecutive days. Other desirable skills include excellent oral and written communication skills, experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Power Point, and Outlook), and broad computer literacy.
Licenses / Certificates / Special Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Water Authority's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Working Hours: 15-20 hours per week (Monday – Thursday) during normal business hours. Normal business hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Potential for more hours during school breaks.
