Duties And Responsibilities

• This is position is a Distribution Lineman position with the special designation of Relief Fault Finding Specialist. When work is not available in the Relief Fault Finding Specialist classification, the employee will perform duties as a Distribution Lineman at the applicable rate of pay.
• While working in the Relief Fault Finding Specialist capacity, will find and isolate distribution faults.
• Work on poles up 100 feet and Steel Structures on lines up to 230 kilovolts (kV).
• Uses Live Line Tools up to 69 kV and rubber gloving method may be used up to 12 kV.
• May be required to work from bucket in an aerial lift truck.
• Will operate a mechanized line truck or other trucks. Install electric meters rated less than 200 amperes.
• Install and maintain electric service lines and metering equipment, primary and secondary voltages.
• Install and make repairs to Overhead & Underground lines carrying primary and secondary voltages.
• Install wood, steal, concreate, and fiberglass poles.
• Install fuses, services drops and electric meters.
• Operate line switches.
• On new installations, may climb poles and attach building service wires to overhead electric distribution lines and install electric meters. Connect service wire leads, insert fuses and test meter for proper voltage and operation.
• Install cross arms, insulators, conductors, switches, transformers and other equipment on both overhead and underground system.
• Requires standing climbing gaffs and steel pole climbing.
• Lift onto mounting bolt from belt height an assembled 10-foot crossarm weighing 80 pounds with hardware while standing in climbing gaffs on pole supported by body belt and safety strap Open or remove substructure covers - rectangular metal handhole "door" or round metal manhole cover up to 108 pounds (lifting tool for manhole)
• Pull load break elbow from pad mount or rack-mounted equipment using hot-stick.
• Lift and carry 60–75-pound tools, materials or equipment from ground to truck bed.
• Work in a variety of terrain, weather and other conditions including temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Periodically work extended overtime shifts.
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Must be a Journeyman Lineman possessing IBEW Journeyman Lineman status in good standing.
• Journeyman electrical worker that has completed an accredited apprenticeship program required.
• Must successfully complete and pass a 4-week fault locating qualifying training prior to working in the Relief classification.
• Must have a valid Class A CA Driver's License or be able to obtain a Class A CA Driver’s License within 10 days of hire.
• Must live within 55 miles of assigned work location.
• Will be required to pass a fault locating and van operation qualifying test annually.
• This position is subject to work overtime, which includes extended days, call-outs for emergency work, weekend work and holiday work.
• Must be able to do heavy manual labor lifting a minimum of 60-75 pounds.
• Will be required to work on steel and wood structures.
• Prior climbing experience is required.
• Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling.
• Must demonstrate and maintain good safety habits.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Underground system experience with 200- and 600-AMP systems is desirable.
  
  

This is a Union Represented position - Represented by Local IBEW 465.

FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration)

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the California Public Utilities Commission have adopted regulations governing the control of drug use by persons in certain job classifications. Certain job duties in this position are classified as being covered by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) (Title 49 CFR Part 382) and candidates who are not already in a DOT covered job classification must pass a pre-employment drug test. Candidates who do not successfully pass the FMCSA pre-employment drug test will be required to enter a drug rehabilitation program as a condition of returning to their present jobs. Once in the job and driving/ licensure/ permitting requirements are met, successful bidders will be subject to FMCSA mandated testing.
