Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Planned Giving is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving the Center's planned giving programs. This role focuses on securing long-term financial support through strategic planning, relationship management, and innovative fundraising initiatives. The Director is a department senior team leader, working closely with the Senior Director of Development and other team members to integrate fundraising efforts and achieve the organization's financial objectives.

In addition to their fundraising responsibilities, the Director is expected to play a critical role in enhancing the organization's relationships with key donors and partners, contributing to a significant portion of the Center's fundraising goals. The Director will build and manage a robust portfolio of prospects and work collaboratively across departments to develop donor-centered proposals.

Planned Giving Program Management

  • Strategic Development : Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development to create and implement strategies that promote planned giving opportunities to potential donors.
  • Donor Engagement : Maintain ongoing communication with planned giving donors, ensuring their intentions are honored and fostering long-term relationships. Lead and execute donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans to secure planned gifts, particularly those valued at $100,000 and above.
  • Portfolio Management : Develop and manage a dynamic portfolio that includes prospects in various phases of the donor solicitation cycle, with a focus on planned gifts, including bequests, life income gifts, and other complex gift structures.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with the major gifts team and other departments to develop strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding planned giving prospects and current members of the legacy society (Stonewall Society).
  • Educational Outreach : Organize and conduct seminars for prospective donors, financial and estate planners, and other key stakeholders. Provide training to staff on planned giving strategies and updates.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Department Operations : Work in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development on the execution of project timelines, monitor team tasks, and oversee a variety of overall department operations.
  • Reporting & Compliance : Track and record activities as they relate to assigned prospects using The Center's CRM database, ensuring all planned giving records are accurate and up-to-date. Adhere to gift acceptance policies and procedures.
  • Professional Development : Stay informed of trends and best practices in planned giving and corporate partnerships by engaging in continuous learning, attending relevant professional associations, and participating in industry events.
  • Agency Representative

  • Represent the organization at community activities and events, ensuring that the agency's commitment to excellence is consistently reflected.
  • LEADERSHIP & CULTURE FACILITATION :

  • Demonstrate administrative and leadership acumen in the following areas : finance, budgeting, information systems utilization, and grievance / complaint resolution
  • Promote, model, and ensure fairness and equity for everyone in all interactions
  • Promote the agency's Welcoming Culture in all interactions, processes, and functions.
  • Supervise / mentor all assigned staff.
  • Provide guidance / direction in the development and execution of any work plans and projects.
  • Provide guidance / direction for career planning, performance challenges, and evaluations.
  • Required QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Education / Experience :
  • At least three years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or corporate partnerships within a non-profit environment. Experience managing a portfolio of planned giving prospects and securing gifts valued at $25,000 or more is highly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred. Advanced training in fundraising, estate, and financial planning is desirable.
  • Certification : CFRE certification or equivalent is desirable.
  • Other Skills : Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred. Advanced training in fundraising, estate, and financial planning is desirable.
  • Language Skills : Fluency in English.
  • Preffered QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Language Skills : Fluency in Spanish.
  • COMPENSATION & BENEFITS :

  • Compensation : The salary for this position is $90,000 per year and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time Regular Exempt position.
