Job Title: Youth Queer Leadership Council Coordinator(YQLC)

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $23.00 to $25.00 per hour
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Youth Services Senior Manager, the YQLC Coordinator will fulfill The Center's mission through the implementation and coordination of the Youth Queer Leadership Council. The Center's YQLC program is designed to increase the engagement, organizing, and leadership skills of LGBTQ2s youth of color.
The Center's YQLC program addresses the disproportionate impact that substance use has had on LGBTQ2S youth of color, ages 12-24, in San Diego County. By offering behavioral health services, leadership development opportunities, civic engagement opportunities, and peer-to-peer support, the YQLC will improve well-being, behavioral health outcomes, and school engagement, and decrease substance use among program participants.
Primary Roles &Responsibilities
- Developing, implementing, and overseeing the Youth Queer Leadership Council.
- Recruiting 20 youth to participate on the council.
- Hosting 12 meetings for the council per year.
- Coordinating 3 youth listening sessions.
- Providing group and workshop facilitation.
- Oversee council activities which include but are not limited to engagement with community leaders, facilitating modules from assigned curriculum, civic engagement training and opportunities, engagement with elected officials, leadership development opportunities, and peer-to-peer support opportunities.
- Oversee volunteers assigned to YQLC.
- Implementing and maintaining systems to collect and analyze data regarding service delivery, volunteer hours and program impacts/outcomes.
- Achieving all contract and/or grant objectives.
- Collaborating with other Center programs and services, as necessary.
- Providing information and referrals to youth.
- Ensuring a safe space for all youth - virtual and in person.
- Using sound judgment to address crisis situations.
Qualifications
- Education /Experience: Minimum 2 years of related work Experience working with LGBTQ ,BIPOC, and HIV youth required. Experience working with substance use prevention and education preferred. Those with lived experience as a member of a historically excluded group and underserved community (i.e., low-income, communities of color, LGBTQ communities, immigrant communities, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
- Other Skills: Must demonstrate competence in working with a variety of diverse people. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
- Computer Skills: Must be comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel.
