We are prayerfully seeking a Director of Marketing who will be a key leader of our Development and Community Engagement Team and will oversee the Mission's efforts in executing marketing, advertising, communications, and event strategies. The Director of Marketing will report to the SR Vice President of Development and Community Engagement. The Director of Marketing has the responsibility of developing and executing an annual growth plan, managing day-to-day operations, coordinating direct mail, digital programs and radio advertising, supporting fundraising events and being a forward-facing representative of the San Diego Rescue Mission. This position calls for a visionary leader with exceptional organizational skills, bold creativity, and innovative thinking to elevate the Mission's brand and community impact to new heights of quality and excellence.


This role is responsible for raising $5M in revenue and will serve as a member of the Development and Community Engagement Team. Additionally, The Director of Marketing will:

  • Lead organizational marketing, and communications efforts
  • Oversee the direct-response fundraising plan and strategy
  • Support the coordination and execution of special events
  • Manage our efforts in public relations and community events
  • Develop and expand the Rescue Mission brand.

Leadership Essentials

Serve as a Strategic Member of the Development and Community Engagement Team

  • Build a marketing program and team that meets the growing needs of the organization
  • Ensure excellent budget management, including revenue, expenses and forecasting
  • Develop a strong relationship cross-departmentally with Program staff
  • Collaborate and strategize effectively with fellow Development Directors
  • Meet regularly with Development and Marketing teams to collaborate on fundraising efforts
  • Provide influential leadership that contributes to the organizational culture

Lead Organizational Marketing and Communications Efforts

  • Architect and execute on a multi-channel marketing strategy that engages and compels new and existing audiences
  • Oversee the creation of all marketing materials and advertising and manage a communications calendar that guides the team's efforts
  • Ensure quality content creation for all social media and digital strategies
  • Craft messaging for radio advertising that drives traffic to website
  • Track/report on the impact of marketing efforts to ensure goals are reached

Oversee the Direct-Response Plan and Strategy

  • Manage our direct mail and digital agency partners to execute an annual fundraising strategy
  • Perform the administrative oversight, review and approval of appeals
  • Collaborate with the Sr VP of Development and Community Engagement to determine strategy, direction and opportunities to improve
  • Provide leadership and direction on annual acquisition plans
  • Ensure all production deadlines are reached
  • Review and analyze performance results on a quarterly and annual basis

Support the Coordination and Execution of Special Events

  • Support the team in the planning and execution of fundraising events and other specialty events
  • Oversee the graphic identity, communications plan and production elements of all Mission events and provide day-of operations support
  • Manage public relations opportunities prior to and during events

Manage Efforts in Public Relations and Community Events

  • Act as main contact for PR firm and lead a strategy that allows the Mission to expand its community presence
  • Create and execute PR opportunities in partnership with our PR firm
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the San Diego Rescue Mission and an understanding of homelessness in San Diego County

Develop and Expand the Rescue Mission Brand

  • Lead brand design and direction across the organization
  • Ensure the consistency and quality of creative and design through all channels
  • Create and implement an annual advertising strategy to increase Mission visibility
  • Support and execute on new advertising and donor acquisition strategies
  • Provide direction and administration to our graphic designers

Represent our Mission, Vision and Values

  • Protect the Mission, pursue the vision and reflect the values of the SDRM
  • Help build the team and grow the capacity and impact of the SDRM
  • Be intentional about developing diversity among our staff and volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS

The Mission assumes that the incumbent will serve as an advocate for the Mission, will support and defend our Mission Statement, Statement of Faith and Mission Values, and has a genuine desire to serve the Lord in the ministry of "rescue."


Education: Minimum- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience: Seasoned marketer with at least 5-7 years full-time work experience in marketing, advertising, public relations and events. Proven experience in the successful execution of major marketing projects, campaigns and events. Preferred experience in non-profit, digital and direct mail marketing and fundraising. Must have staff supervisory experience and experience working with creative professionals and marketing agencies.


Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook); typing (min 35 wpm); coordinate and/or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully; exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions; attentive to detail; prioritize effectively; effective oral and written communication skills; eagerness to learn and be trained; work both independently and as part of a team; provide information to public by answering questions and requests; regular, timely attendance. Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.


Special License/Certification: None.


Travel/Transportation: The incumbent must travel on a regular (or periodic) basis, as the job requires. The incumbent must have reliable transportation. If the incumbent receives authorization to use a Mission vehicle to perform duties, he or she must present a current California driver's license and good driving record in order to be placed on the Mission's insurance policy.

MANAGERIAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY


Supervision of full-time and part-time staff. The incumbent may have occasional supervision of external volunteers, Rescue Mission Contractors, and interns. The position requires independent judgment when working with agencies, volunteers, teams, and contractors.

ENVIRONMENT


The incumbent has a private office that is generally clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The incumbent is expected to be off-site (event support, pr opportunities, donor cultivation, etc.) for some of the scheduled work hours.


The incumbent works in a residential setting, which consists of individuals who may have a mental or physical disability or illness.

Physical resources may be limited and, in some cases, are donated.

Must work evenings, overnights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed

Must be on-call or participate in an on-call rotation (if available)
