We are looking for a passionate follower of Jesus, who loves to engage with the community and connect volunteers to meaningful opportunities that impact our community. If you possess the skills to find and match interested volunteers with the Mission's needs and nurture those relationship to ensure volunteers feel valued, seen and appreciated, then the San Diego Rescue Mission invites you to join our team as the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.

As the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, you will serve as a member of the Development and Community Engagement Team and reports to the Volunteer Program Director. This position supports the work of the Mission and enhances SDRM's partnership with the local community by finding and matching interested volunteers with Mission needs, and then effectively managing those relationships. Time will be split roughly 50/50 between data/content management and project/event execution.

  • To pursue, develop, coordinate and lead volunteer experiences that support SDRM's programs and provide maximum impact for donors, community partners and other key stakeholders
  • Create meaningful experiences for volunteers - individuals and groups.
  • Manage cross-department calendars of volunteer tours/events/weekend experiences, including schedules on Teams, room reservations, a/v and food requests and other needed support.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are implemented at all sites.
  • Assist with community outreach events and off-site volunteer events as needed.
  • Create volunteer opportunities that include well-written project descriptions, photos and all details.
  • Manage all volunteer requests from website.
  • Ensure upcoming events have the volunteer support needed and communicate with team members and marketing department if more assistance is needed to fill vacant slots.
  • Get to know the volunteers by name.
  • Assist with volunteer communications and appreciation efforts/events.
  • Create a system to log videos, photos, and stories for easy use. Get signed releases.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Mission assumes that the incumbent will serve as an advocate for the Mission, will support and defend our Mission Statement, Statement of Faith and Mission Values, and has a genuine desire to serve the Lord in the ministry of "rescue."

Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Human Resources or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience: Minimum 2 years full-time work experience as a volunteer coordinator or similar position. Nonprofit experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of MS 365 (Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point), Canva, and Mailchimp. Experience with Virtuous (Donor Relations CRM) and VOMO (volunteer management system) a plus. Coordinate and/or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully; exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions; attentive to detail; prioritize effectively; adept at learning new computer systems and programs; effective oral and written communication skills; eagerness to learn and be trained; work both independently and as part of a team; provide information to public by answering questions and requests; regular, timely attendance.

Drug Screen Disclaimer
SDRM is a Nonprofit Religious Organization and as such, we require all employees to submit to our drug screen as a condition of employment once they have accepted a position with SDRM. Because of our religious affiliation, we do not allow employees to use or consume recreational or medicinal marijuana, along with all other federally recognized substances. You will be notified prior to any employment decisions if your drug screen is returned with negative findings. Refusal to submit to testing will result in disqualification of further employment consideration.
