What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Analyst position at San Diego Tourism Authority?
The San Diego Tourism Authority is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 900 member organizations, businesses, local governments, and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) members include tourism-related entities in such categories as lodging, dining, arts & attractions, shopping, and transportation, among others, as well as other companies indirectly involved in the visitor industry.
As a sales and marketing organization, the main objective of SDTA is to promote and market San Diego County as a vacation destination and meetings and convention site. SDTA also represents and supports the interests of the visitor industry as a whole.
General responsibilities:
- Meet various reporting deadlines through the collection, upload, and entry of data and communication of Visitor Industry data and SDTA metrics.
- Monitor new supply and maintain lodging inventory database and STR inventory alignment.
- Track competitive market data (infrastructure changes and large events).
- Support the adoption of BI and visualization tools throughout the organization. Support staff’s access and use of industry and metrics information to improve effectiveness. Understand staff needs regarding data uses.
- Support and service staff with primary and secondary data and information needs, including the implementation of customer feedback processes.
- Continuously improve the efficiency of the flow, use and reporting of data throughout the organization.
- Maintain documentation, structure and storage of the organization’s metrics, industry data, and related processes.
- Work with the Director of Research to accomplish departmental goals including the support of organizational planning, return on investment, presentation development, blogs and articles for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Strong math and analytic capabilities
- A desire to manipulate data to find business insights
- Understanding of economics, market research principles, and basic statistics
- Strong Excel/PowerPoint skills and basic knowledge of Tableau
- Ability to query and move large amounts of data between systems is a plus
- Knowledge of web, mobile and social analytics a plus
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at the same time.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be curious by nature and have a desire to learn new things
- Project management skills a strong plus
- Four-year degree required. Degrees in marketing (with an emphasis on analytics), business, economics, or computer science preferred.

Annualized salary range is $65k to $71k DOE.
