What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Educational Interpreter (Deaf & Hard Of Hearing) position at San Diego Unified School District?
The Senior Educational Interpreter facilitates communication between hearing students and students who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents, and others by providing comprehensive manual and/or oral interpreting services in a variety of linguistic environments including high level academic subjects such as calculus, chemistry and physics, and providing tutoring for students having special needs.
This opportunity is open to all interested candidates and this recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for the current 32.5 hours per week, 10-month vacancy as well as any future vacancies. This list will be active for three (3) months with the possibility to be extended.

E = Essential Functions
Interpret and voice-interpret for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents, and others in more than one sign language system, conveying the content and spirit of the speaker. E
Provide oral interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents, and others; consult with classroom teachers to identify students in need of additional support. E
Identify and report unusual problems to teachers. E
Provide additional support; assist with direct instruction under the supervision of the teacher. E
Prepare for specialized instructional vocabulary. E
Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as required. E
Assist the teacher in establishing an optimum interpreting environment. E
Adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct as set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and the interpreter guidelines established by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. E
Assist in the implementation of individual education plans under supervision.
May serve as a site liaison interpreter.
Perform related duties as assigned.
