How You Will Make an Impact

Under the direction of the Psychological Services Coordinator, the School Psychologist performs a variety of professional activities involved in the observation, assessment and identification of psychological, behavioral, and educational needs of referred or identified students; develops/implements effective interventions, instructional approaches and strategies; develops behavioral, affective and or adaptive goals for students; provides educationally related mental health services to students and families; and consults/collaborates with other school team members in the planning and evaluation of school programs and services to meet the special needs of students.

  • Determines eligibility for and recommends special education services and various other programs; refers students and families to various County Office, school district and community programs and services
  • Writes assessment reports concerning psychological observations, assessment findings and diagnoses; prepares, distributes and maintains a variety of records, reports and files related to students, IEPs, BSP's, BIP's, health, counseling and other assigned activities
  • Coordinates and/or participates in multi-disciplinary assessments of students; collaborates with other team members in the development of multi-disciplinary reports
  • Monitors student progress through classroom observations and ongoing communications with teachers, administrators, students and families concerning the progress of students; suggests modifications and adjustments to instructional, developmental and remedial strategies as appropriate
  • Develops, implements, and conducts in-service training sessions for parents, faculty and staff to enhance educational, developmental and remediation services for students; prepares and delivers oral presentations
  • Provides consultation, training and technical assistance to families, educators and others concerning psychological, behavioral and educational issues and problems; interprets psychological findings and provides detailed and technical information concerning treatment, developmental and remediation plans, programs, practices, procedures, techniques and strategies
  • Attends and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) and various other meetings concerning students with special needs; collaborates with parents, school staff and administrators in the development and implementation of IEP's, Behavior Support Plans (BSP's) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP's) as required
  • Assists in assuring educational activities for identified students comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Communicates with school personnel, outside agencies and the public to exchange information, coordinates activities and resolve issues or concerns; provides crisis intervention and counseling for students and families during crisis situations as needed
  • Provide professional Development for special education and general education staff
  • Serve as the facilitator for high profile IEP meetings
  • Serve as the school representative for SELPA program three year reviews
  • Serve as a member of the school crisis team
  • Provide educationally related mental health services for all required students
  • Perform other administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATION, ETC.

  • Knowledge of school psychology theory, child development, crisis management, tests and measurements, and effective instructional processes
  • Knowledge of special education regulations and effective IEP writing
  • Proficiency in assessment of cognitive processes, achievement, social and emotional functioning
  • Ability to maintain required timelines and work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to synthesize and interpret diagnostic assessment data
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, team members
  • Self-sufficient, organized, excellent communication skills (oral and written)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in School Psychology or related field required
  • Valid and/or Eligible to receive California Pupil Personnel Services Credential: School Psychologist
  • 1 year of specific experience performing professional psychology duties in a school or clinical environment including work with children, adolescents and special education programs and services required
  • Proficient skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

TRAVEL: Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery
  • Physical Strength: sedentary work. Sitting most of the time, and occasionally exerts up to 10 lbs. of force (almost all office jobs)
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures
