About SDWAC: The San Diego World Affairs Council (SDWAC) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and engaging the San Diego community on global issues, foreign policy, international relations, and cross-cultural opportunities. We host prominent speakers, and facilitate discussions on key global topics. As a member of the World Affairs Council of America (WACA), the largest international affairs nonprofit in the U.S., SDWAC has been a cornerstone for global dialogue and education in San Diego since 1954.
Position Overview: We seek a skilled Grant Writer (Contractor) to support SDWAC’s fundraising efforts by identifying, researching, and applying for grants that align with our mission. The Grant Writer will be crucial in securing funding to support our programs and events focused on global education and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
· Research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
· Develop compelling, well-researched grant proposals tailored to the specific requirements of each grantor.
· Write, edit, and submit grant applications, ensuring all components (narrative, budget, supporting documentation) are accurate and meet deadlines.
· Collaborate with SDWAC leadership to gather relevant information for grant proposals.
· Maintain a detailed grant calendar, track submissions, and manage follow-up communications.
· Stay informed about trends and best practices in grant writing, particularly in the international affairs and education sectors.
Qualifications:
· Proven experience in grant writing, preferably for nonprofits in education, international affairs, or related fields.
· Strong research, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear and persuasive narratives.
· Knowledge of the grant application process and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
· Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
· Familiarity with international affairs, foreign policy, or cross-cultural programs is a plus.

· Compensation will be based on experience and successful grant submissions. On retainer $500 per month
