HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Director of Finance oversees the general accounting & payroll functions, month-end and year-end close, and accounting systems operations. The position oversees federal grant award accounting and compliance as well. This position manages a staff of accounting & payroll managers and supervisors, reporting to the Vice President of Finance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Oversees general accounting & payroll functions including but not limited to: compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, accounting entries, revenue recognition, receivables, fixed assets, accruals, preparation of financial reports, maintains the general ledger, and manages the month-end and year-end close, and ensures all reconciliations are performed and processes / leads payroll.
- Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department. Supports Vice President of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Orchestrates annual audits, tax return preparation, and debt compliance
- Responds to inquiries from the Vice President of Finance and other managers regarding financial results and reporting requests. Researches and prepares special reports as required. Collaborates with finance department managers to support overall department goals. Engages in critical and confidential aspects of accounting.
- Ensures compliance with requirements for federal awards and coordinates annual Uniform Guidance audit of federal awards
- Manages Finance & Payroll staff including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, training, performance management and separations of employment.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- JOB EXPERIENCE
- 7 years of prior experience in management; extensive supervisory experience required. And
- 7 years’ experience with managing financial systems, month-end and year-end financial close, external and internal audits, tax compliance, and account reconciliations.
- Not-for-profit experience preferred.
- EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field or equivalent specialized training and/or job experience required.
- Master's Degree Masters in accounting or business administration preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant
- SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, fund accounting, nonprofit reporting and tax compliance.
- Must have a strong knowledge of audits and financial controls.
- Knowledge of record keeping and financial procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead highly effective, diverse teams.
- Regulatory compliance with federal and state filings experience/knowledge required.
- Able to operate moderately complex financial software programs.
- Able to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare presentations and present to large groups.
- Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
