Position Summary:
This position requires someone willing to assist with patient eligibility and health plan enrollment and to flex between different SFCHC receptionist locations including the main reception (730 Polk Street); the clinical reception (also at 730 Polk Street); and the dental reception (1800 Market Street), as needed.
As an Eligibility/Enrollment Specialist and Clinical Receptionist you are the face of SFCHC’s clinical services (medical, behavioral and enabling) and ensure that patients feel welcomed, seen, and heard in the clinical reception spaces. The position is responsible for managing patient appointments and coordinating with clinical staff to meet patient needs.
Both the Eligibility/Enrollment Specialist and Clinical Receptionist components of this position require good communication, resiliency, and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced patient care environment by multi-tasking and prioritizing the workday. The position reports directly to the RN Clinic Manager with support from the Front Office Supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Assist the Front Office Supervisor in researching patient eligibility for and completing enrollment in qualifying health plans to obtain coverage for medical/dental/mental health care.
- Greet patients and assess needs.
- Answer clinical phone calls and respond to voicemails at least every 30 minutes. Ensure phone coverage during lunch hours.
- Enroll new patients into SFCHC clinical services, ensuring completion of new patient packets.
- Support patient navigation to clinical services (medical, behavioral health, dental, enabling services).
- Schedule clinical appointments and conduct appointment reminders.
- Conduct daily follow-up on patient no-shows and cancelations, documenting follow-up attempts in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Coordinate with clinical providers to meet patient needs, ensuring urgent medical advice requests are followed-up within 30 min (by a provider or nurse), during business hours.
- Accept and process patient payments (cash/credit/check) in alignment with the Sliding Fee Schedule and the Master Charge Fee Schedule.
- Perform timely data collection and data entry (including faxing and scanning documents into patient records).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work with diverse populations – LGBTQ communities, refugees/immigrants, people experiencing homelessness, and multiply-diagnosed populations (those with substance use and/or mental health barriers)
- High school diploma or equivalent work/life experience
- Highly organized.
- Skilled in the use of computers (Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Windows, and MS Office—Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and demonstration of follow-through and reliability.
- Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team.
- One year experience in customer service, office, and clerical work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data, and communications.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, complete with booster shot and able to show proof of vaccination.
- Updated Tuberculosis screening and seasonal flu vaccination.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual: Spanish / Mandarin
- Experience using electronic health record systems such as EPIC
- Two years of experience working in a health center, hospital, or free clinic.
- Self-starter, self-motivated and able to work within a team
