Program Summary:
The Taimon Booton Navigation Center (TBNC) is our shelter and service center for transgender, gender non-conforming & intersex people, as well as cisgender women, to find sanctuary, community, and a pathway to housing. TBNC's gender-supportive facility offers refuge, belonging, and safety and is the only shelter in Northern California attached to a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). It is our hope that everyone who stays at TBNC leaves feeling safer, more supported, and on their way to stable housing.Role Summary:
The Navigation Center Janitor, under the direction from Shelter Site Director, will be on site 4-days-a-week and is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks and general cleaning to ensure guest facilities are clean and to reduce the spread of communicable diseases and/or pests. The janitor contributes to the work of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in providing a nurturing, welcoming and safe place for unhoused TGNCI people and ciswomen to begin their healing and housing process at this harm reduction-based, holistic, TGNCI and sex worker-centered Navigation Center
Essential Duties:
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain the entire facility's upkeep, including entrance ways, common areas/bathrooms, kitchen, and resident's rooms. Remove debris and maintain a high-quality appearance of cleanliness and orderliness.
- Dust, clean, and sanitize all spaces. Daily routine includes scrubbing, sweeping, picking up, wiping, washing, dusting, disinfecting, including walls, handrails, fixtures, woodwork, ceilings, furniture, light fixtures, appliances, picture frames, mirrors, switch covers, and shelving.
- Disinfect all high touch surfaces, including door handles, handrails, fixtures, and appliances.
- Sanitize, clean, and stock resident's and communal bathrooms, which include, but are not limited to, showers, tubs, sinks, toilets, and fixtures.
- Remove trash frequently including, emptying bins, breaking down boxes, and recycling.
- Remove small and large debris and assist with "turnovers" of vacated rooms.
- Perform painting, buffing, stripping, and waxing as needed to remove stains and update rooms and fixtures' appearances.
- Clean glass windows and doors in rooms, common areas, and entranceway.
- Organize, maintain, restock all supplies, leaving inventory in a secure, clean, and ready for use.
- Report emergencies, damages, fixtures/furniture losses, maintenance needs, safety issues, and needed equipment repairs.
- Work on weekends and/or holidays as needed.
- Other janitorial duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to climb stairs, stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in environment with marginalized populations, including diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
- Ability to work in environment with people who are: unhoused; disabled; substance users; living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C; immigrants, experiencing mental health issues.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data, and communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.
- Demonstrated excellence in attendance and reliability, interpersonal, organizational, and group communication skills
- Commitment to cultural humility
- Ability to work independently
- Some evening and weekend hours required.
- Fully vaccinated, including most recent COVID-19 vaccination and seasonal flu
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
