The list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill 2328 Nurse Practitioner - Adult / Family Medicine Specialty positions for the next six months.

Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings. Essential duties include but are not limited to all or some of the following :

  • Provides routine preventative and continuity care to adult and / or pediatric patients; this may include complete history and physical examinations.
  • Orders diagnostic tests, which may include laboratory tests, X-rays and other imaging, E.K.G.’s, and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests.
  • Identifies and manages patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty.
  • Provides urgent care to acutely ill patients.
  • Acute care planning for patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Assesses and diagnosis, develops treatment plans, and furnishes medications.
  • Counsels and educates patients, and collaborates with healthcare team.
  • Consults with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions.
  • Documents medical records, and adheres to patient privacy.
  • Participates in staff meetings and conferences regarding patient care, as well as quality improvement / control activities.
  • Ability to care for birthing adults.
  • The Nurse Practitioner may perform other duties as assigned / required.
  • How to qualify

    Minimum Qualifications (Required)

    1. LICENSE : Possession of a valid permanent / temporary California license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND

    2. LICENSE : Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND

    3. LICENSE : Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nurses; AND

    4. EDUCATION : Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university; AND

    5. SPECIALTY AREA REQUIREMENTS : (Adult / Family Medicine) Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP; or Acute Care NP;AND

    6. CERTIFICATION : Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization :

    Note : Additional credentialing-specific requirements may be applicable, dependent upon the final determination of the specific clinical service area / line.

    Special Conditions : Some positions may require special conditions, including but not limited to Bilingual Proficiency : Some positions may require bilingual fluency in a variety of languages depending upon the department's bilingual needs. Only those eligible candidates who pass the bilingual proficiency test will be considered for bilingual positions. Special conditions associated with the position(s) to be filled may differ from the standard minimum qualifications associated with this classification.

    Desirable Qualifications

    optional) : The following desirable qualifications are applicable to some NP Adult / Family positions as described below :

    Adult / Family Medicine NP position working in Pediatrics

  • One (1) year experience managing Prenatal and Pediatric patients
  • Adult / Family Medicine NP positions working in Primary Care

  • One year of experience as a NP in primary care
  • Adult / Family Medicine NP positions working in the Infusion Center Units

  • Six months Oncology experience
  • Adult / Family Medicine NP positions working at the Family Health Center

  • Two (2) years of experience in Primary Care
  • Adult / Family Medicine NP positions working on the Inpatient Medical-Surgical Units

  • Two (2) years of Inpatient experience as an RN in an acute care hospital and Adult NP, Family NP or Acute Care NP certification OR
  • Two (2) years of Acute Care NP experience including Adult Medicine or Emergency Department experience
  • Inpatient Orthopedic NP positions working on the Inpatient Orthopedic Team

  • Inpatient NP Orthopedic experience
  • Outpatient NP in an Orthopedic Clinic
  • The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

    Selection Procedures :

    After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following.

    Training and Experience Evaluation (Weight : 100%) : Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a Training and Experience Evaluation that is designed to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities in job-related areas that have been identified as critical for satisfactory performance in this position.

    The link to the training and experience evaluation will also be emailed to the address listed on the candidate’s online application. Candidates will be required to respond to the training and experience evaluation in the time frame indicated and must submit the completed questionnaire as directed to have it evaluated. Responses cannot be changed once submitted. Candidates will be evaluated based on their responses.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score on the training and experience evaluation to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

    Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

    Certification

    The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of the List.

    The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
