Position Summary

The Program Associate position for the Place Pathway advances and supports the results, strategies, milestones, grantmaking, research, cross-team collaboration, and communications functions of the San Francisco Foundation (SFF)’s Place Pathway. The Program Associate works most closely with the Sr. Director of the Place Pathway, and works with Program Officers, Associates, Administrative Assistants, and other Community Impact (CI) and SFF Staff to support the development and implementation of the Foundation’s equity agenda, funding strategies, and activities.

Boundaries

The Program Associate is a member of the Place Pathway, which sits in the Community Impact (CI) department. The CI department is primarily tasked with developing core strategies for advancing SFF’s racial equity and economic inclusion mission, and includes leading a range of activities including, grantmaking, engaging with community partners, convening stakeholders, and supporting strategic communications and research.

Authority

The Program Associate reports to the Sr. Director of Place Pathway. Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Place Pathway, the Program Associate will be tasked with both supporting and spear heading team and department-wide activities. The Program Associate often works with CI staff to strengthen, implement, and advance CI’s grantmaking and programmatic strategies and activities. This position also regularly engages with and represents the CI department to other departments, in internal and external funder working groups, and at grantee convenings.

Role

The role of the Program Associate, Place Pathway is to facilitate the achievement of results through strategy development and implementation, serve as a grant application lead, a point of contact for grantee stakeholders and potential borrowers, and advance SFF’s racial equity and economic inclusion mission through programmatic and grantmaking activities.

  • Supports their pathway in the project management and development, tracking and implementation of pathway strategies
  • Nurtures organizational values and collaborative culture
  • Provides coordination and project management support to the implementation of Pathway strategy projects, grantmaking, communications, and other activities.
  • Provides support on projects and represent the perspective of the Place Pathway with external stakeholders and funder groups.
  • Acts as a team lead on special assignments, which may include outreach, meeting, planning, communication with constituents or donor services, and managing projects.

Tasks

  • Creates briefings and communications to advance Pathway results and strategies,
  • Maintains relationships and communications with grantees, donors, nonprofit partners, public sector allies, and others and ensures timely response to issues and requests.
  • Develops project timelines, maps, contacts, contracts, reports, and tracking using technology (e.g., MS Office tools, Fluxx, Salesforce, Smartsheet, Miro etc.)
  • Supports project management and prepares content for team retreats and deep dive sessions based on team strategies and topics raised.
  • Assists in issue area research, engagement, and advocacy.
  • Serves as application lead and point of contact to assigned grantees, providing reliable and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Provides critical analysis and evaluation of progress with meeting milestone.
  • Coordinates site visits, community meetings, and special convenings
  • Assists Sr. Director in reviewing and preparing impact investment opportunities; and in tracking the Pathway’s grantmaking budget.

Competencies & Qualifications

  • 3 to 4 years relevant work experience
  • Experience in areas related to racial equity and economic inclusion (which may include housing rights and anti-displacement, community development or other related issues.
  • Ability to communicate internally with Foundation staff and externally to diverse audiences.
  • Well-organized, self-starting, and independent with the ability to multi-task, set priorities, track projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Project management skills and experience with complex, multi-stakeholder efforts
  • Experience collaborating within a team, across teams and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a proactive and constructive manner.
  • Strong active listening, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in and across teams.
  • Deep understanding of the Bay Area, its history, and the realities of the region’s residents - through intellectual, professional, and lived experience – particularly with a clear racial equity lens
  • Demonstrated abilities to build successful relationships with local leaders and organizations; engage people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Deep interest in policy, advocacy, and systems change to ensure long term impact.
  • Committed to building resilient organizations and providing technical assistance.
  • Experience utilizing data-analysis in decision-making and a focus on achieving results.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer/software skills, including Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & Teams) and Zoom
  • Ability to learn, navigate and manage online platforms, including Fluxx, Qlik sense, Smartsheet, and Salesforce

Compensation: The San Francisco Foundation offers a very competitive total compensation package including base compensation in alignment with our organizational budget size and rich medical and fringe benefits offerings.
