The Case Coordinator will support the work and mission of the District’s Legal Division which includes the Labor Relations Department. Members of the Legal Division work collaboratively with our clients to implement the District’s strategic plan through skilled advice, advocacy and effective proactive counsel. Under supervision, the Case Coordinator performs professional employee relations staff duties, including research, analysis and studies; assists in labor negotiations, grievance processing, dispute resolution and other employee relations activities; and performs related duties as required. This position reports to the Office Manager of the Legal Division.


Essential Duties:

  • Assist in the negotiation process by providing information for the Chief Negotiator and serve as note taker.
  • Under direction, prepare written summaries in narrative, outline or graphic form, and a variety of other tasks related to the management of cases for the Legal Division.
  • Manage assigned files, including electronic files, for cases handled by the Legal Division and the Labor Department.
  • Assist with case management related to labor relations, grievance tracking and District parking permits, including document organization and management.
  • Assist in the preparation of resolutions, legal memoranda, collective bargaining agreements and other documents for submission to the Board of Education.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

  • Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that may involve confidential or sensitive matters
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment

The strongest candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools
  • Experience conducting investigatory intake interviews involving difficult and uncomfortable subjects
  • Strong analytic and systems thinking
  • Experience working to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
  • Knowledge of research techniques, statistical data gathering and presentation; collective bargaining and of dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration and fact finding
  • Understanding of contract administration and maintenance including the principles, practices and procedures of processing grievances and appeals
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to Special Education
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply appropriate provisions of applicable laws, rules, regulations, resolutions, memoranda of understanding, and operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university. Course work in the social/behavioral sciences or in public/business administration is preferred.


Substitution: Professional personnel experience performing duties equivalent to those of City class 1280 Employee Relations Representative must substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. (One year of experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester or 45 quarter units of college coursework.) Related experience claimed in other City classes must be documented in accordance with Civil Service Commission Rule 109 to be treated as qualifying.
