This is a .75-1 FTE, exempt faculty position starting August 1, 2025.

Summary

San Francisco Waldorf High School (SFWHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced High School Science and Math teacher to start August 1, 2025. This three quarter to full-time position includes Earth Science and Biology lab blocks as well as at least two year-long math classes ranging from Algebra 2- Calculus.

The right teacher for this position will have a commitment to using the methodologies of Waldorf Education, especially the phenomenological/ experiential approach to teaching science. We are looking for an individual with a deep knowledge of and passion for mathematics and science. The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching all grade levels 9th-12th. A willingness and capacity to form caring relationships with students, a belief in the capacities of all students, the ability to differentiate instruction according to student need and experience, and sound classroom management skills are essential for the job, as is a desire to engage in the life of the Waldorf faculty and to work in a highly collaborative environment. New teachers at SFWHS are supported via participation in an observation and mentoring process, and expected to attend in-house teacher development.

The San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) was founded in 1979 and currently enrolls 380 students throughout a parent-child program, a preschool program, kindergarten, and Grades 1st - 12th. Fifty percent of students identify as people of color. The high school campus is in the West Portal neighborhood and is easily accessible via public transportation.

Job Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Maintaining an organized, clean, and safe classroom and laboratory space
  • Designing and carrying out laboratory experiments that adhere to safety guidelines and meet the curriculum
  • Meeting regularly with a mentor to go over class planning
  • Attending all Science/Math Department meetings
  • Having periodic evaluations from an outside evaluator
  • Using the school portal to track assignments and share information and quarterly grades
  • Strong communication with students and families
  • Creating daily lesson plans and long-term syllabus for each class
  • Give feedback to students in a timely manner
  • Submitting quarterly grade reports by the required deadlines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Botany, Physiology, or a related field (required)
  • Graduate degree (preferred)
  • Active interest in exploring Waldorf education
  • Experience teaching High school or working with teens (preferred but not required)

Benefits And Compensation

This is a .75 FTE to 1 FTE position. Benefits include medical, dental, flexible spending plans, retirement plan (employer contributions after one year of employment), and tuition remission (prorated by FTE) for eligible dependents in our Preschool - Grade 12 program (staff fees apply). The full annual salary range is $60K - $95K, depending on training and experience. The salary will be prorated for less than a full 1 FTE. Salaries are paid on a 12-month schedule.

Physical Requirements And Work Environment

  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
  • Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
  • Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
